Research and evaluation consent

We will be evaluating the Big Bang Competition to assess its impact, to identify how next year’s Competition could be improved, and to show our sponsors and supporters what we have achieved with their help.

To do this, we will invite young people who take part in the Competition to complete an online feedback survey. The survey will ask about their experience of participating in the Competition and their thoughts about studying STEM subjects and going into STEM related careers. We may also invite adults (teachers, parents, carers, etc.) to take part in an about their own experience of the Competition.

We will ask young people taking part to provide some personal details within the survey. This includes: gender, ethnicity, disability, and school name. These personal details will only be used for the purpose of evaluation and informing the ongoing development of the Competition. This is collected anonymously where possible, but where we may have other information which combined can identify someone, or the group is too small to accurately ensure that responses are fully anonymous, we use ‘suppression’ to ensure nobody can be identified based on the data they have provided us.

Young people are not required to give this information, but doing so will help us to understand who is taking part and make sure we are as inclusive as possible.

The information collected will be held, processed, analysed and reported on by EngineeringUK. All data will be held confidentially in accordance with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. At no point will the information provided be published in a way that would allow a survey respondent to be personally identified.

For more information on how we process personal information please see our privacy policy.
